I guess getting Friday off was pointless.

Dan's not going. Which means my tent isn't going. Which, on a good note, means I won't have to put it up in the dark.

Woot!

I got Friday off!

So hopefully things will be organized and I won't be putting a tent up in the dark.

Well I *won't* be putting a tent up in the dark, but hopefully things will be less tense about it.

Woooooot!

Now to wait and hear about my Pennsic Week....keep your fingers crossed!

Reconstructing History(TM)

Ahaa! Pirate

This is a vendor who was at AE War Practice back in May. I've been reading the LJ of the woman who runs Reconstructing History for some time. I stumbled across it as I was looking into doing a project of my own. What I love about them is that they are committed to not only historical acuracy but also to their customers. It's a small business run out of their home, but they produce fabulous products. They are known mostly for their patterns but also carry all sorts of other notions such as lace, rope and even fabric. They are always very helpful in answering questions, and span a variety of different time periods, giving them the option of serving many different re-enactors. I have a few Scadian friends who have bought their patterns and have loved them, not only for their historical accuracy, but for the easy to follow, written by a human instructions that come with them. I also gave the information to a group of Civil War Re-enactoers at home and they instantly fell in love. Go to their site and at least have a look.

"We'll never tell you it's your job to figure out if our products are historically accurate. That's OUR job! We do not sell compromises. We sell historical accuracy."

WORDS!

A meme brought to you by unique_name_123.

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

Here are mine:

fencing - I fell into fencing by chance. Marching band was dwindling down, and so was college for that matter so I needed something to do to fill the void that those two would leave behind. Enter the SCA, a few of my friends were in it and I've always been interested in History. I joined by going to local fencing practices and picking up what I could. I really love fencing, the adrenaline that you get in a melee, the camraderie of the other fencers, and the general good time that it provides. Lately, my knee has been screwed, and I don't want to risk further injury to it by fencing. My doctors told me years ago to quit band/colorguard, goodness knows what they will say when I tell them I'm fencing. I have found that most events are boring without it, though I have been making new(non-fencing) friends, and finding other activities that I enjoy at events in the meantime.

career - I'm not sure I have one right now. I have been employed by WVU for six years now, so that would be my "career" for the moment, but it's not where I want to stay forever. I love it there, but the money isn't there, and I'm not using my degree at all. I love my job and plan on staying there until I get my Master's since they will pay for it, but past that I'm going to try to break into something using my degree. Not necessarily politics, but some form of civil servant. But for now I'm happy right where I am.

friendship - My friends are my world. I moved 250 miles away from ALL of my family when I was 17 to go to school. My friends then became my family. Most of them are from home, Marching Band, Kappa Phi, and the SCA. I have a few from work, but try not to let work/personal life mix too, too much. Not to mention, since moving away my family has made the transition more from "family" to friends, which I'm rather enjoying.

party - I may have gone to one of the biggest Party Schools in the country, but I'm really not all that much of a "partier" I follow a local band with a girlfriend and we love doing that. I have a really good time at Homecoming every year with the Alumni Band, and I like to have a good time at events. Other than that I am too much of a worrier to get out of control anymore.

future - I'm not really sure what the future holds. I'd like to say I have every minute detail planned out, but I don't. I used to be like that, then I got a clue. Now I'm just along for the ride. Everyday that I wake up, smile, and enjoy life, is just one more day I get to be me.
Mine are back here... )

FABRIC-GASM!

I had a coupon for Joann's Fabric and thought I might as well go up and get a cut of red linen for a new apron dress. So I trudge out there and walk in the door and they are having some ridiculous sale. Then I get over to the linen and it's 60% off! So I got 4 yards of red and 4 yards of a rusty color that I've been in love with for a while, both were 52 inches wide! Then I went back and saw this awesome goldenrod color that I just had to have, but there was only about 1.5 yards left so I grabbed that. The woman gave me the Gold as a remnant for a dollar fifty. The rest of it ended up being around $3 a yard. How fantastic is that!?

I got all that plus lots of beads/tools/findings for $40. And the best part was it was $40 that had been in a check waiting for me at Hallmark that I didn't know about!

Score!

I'm Pre-Reg'd for Pennsic!

“The problem with Livejournal is that we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. Hence, I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don’t know about you.”

Week(end)s in Review

Last weekend was War Practice. It was fabulous. I didn't fight, and was apprehensive about that part, thinking I'd be bored like I have been at other events. But I really wasn't. It was fun catching up with people and relaxing and drinking and not having much to worry about. Setting up and tearing down were stressful. Mostly because his idea of organization and mine do not come anywhere close to each other, but we did it, and now that I've set up that particular tent I know what's up for next time, which should be Bog 3-Day! Then he'll have to do it for Pennsic because I won't be out until the Middle Weekend for that one.

Last week was a blur really, between just getting back from camping, working all week, and driving back and forth I was a big ball of exhaustion. Not to mention I got poison ivy from War Practice. Damn walking around bare foot for 4 days. It exploded on Friday so I didn't go into work. Giving me a four day weekend, in which I got nothing accomplished other than getting caught up on NCIS thanks to the Memorial Day Marathon on USA. That was fun.

We were going to go up to Practice on Sunday, but by the time he got back to town he was too tired to go. I really wanted to, but it was nice to catch up with each other too!

I just got caught up with my friend's list since I don't usually read from home, and have made my to do list for work. I'm gunna tackle this week and I'm not sure what's on deck for the weekend. I thought something was, but now can't recall...

Pop Tab Angel!

Ok, a little backstory. I work with some community service agencies through work. One of them is the Ronald McDonald House here in town. I found out that just that house alone makes $1400/month off of the Soda Pop Tab donations that they get. So I called and got the little collection boxes and put one in my office and one in the break room and a sign on the recycle bin.

I haven't had awesome success but something is better than nothing right? Well this morning while I was in a meeting someone left a Gallon Freezer bag FULL of them on my desk! I was way too excited.

Thought I'd share.

Catch-up

This late lunch is slowly killing me. It's not bad because when I leave Hallmark I'm not super starving, but I am super starving for lunch, so that's not good.

I'm still loving my job, it's getting more busy, which is nice, and not to terribly stressful yet, but this summer there is New Student Orientation almost everyday so that will change I'm sure.

I quit Hallmark. I hate it there. I can't get along with certain employees there and since they changed the hours there is really no reason to because I can't get more than a three hour shift. So my last day there is Wednesday.

I'm going to War Practice this year! Yay! I didn't get to go last year because of Graduation, so this year should be fun. I'm camping with Daniel, so we'll see how that works out. We got everything packed up this past weekend, so we should be good to go there. I just need to dig out my garb/gear. I doubt I'll fence, but I'm bringing stuff just in case.

I have Friday off...WOOT! I'm not used to this whole paid time off thing, so that's fun.

I got my hair permed and LOVE it. I wish it was loger but for now I'm dealing with it. I was really worried about how it would turn out, but Marsha at Nico Spalon really knows her shit, and everyone there was fabulous.

That's about it.

Oh the joys of working in Financial Aid, with phone calls and e-mails and walk-ins and paperwork and I-D-I-O-T-S wandering around all over the freaking place!

Good thing I got a mini Mexican Vacay to Rio Grande #3 for lunch in honor of Cinco de Mayo!

OMG!

Not to mention working at Freakin' HALLMARK everyday the week of MOTHER'S DAY! It's not a complicated holiday people. Buy a card, get some flowers and be done with it!

I guess going in with low expectations has it's perks.

When I saw the "partial nudity" aspect of the PG-13 rating I was hoping for some Hugh Jackman butt, but(no pun intended) seeing a fully naked Hugh Jackman for roughly 1-2 minutes whas also more than acceptable.

The movie was good. I've never read ony of the comics and have only seen a couple episodes of the cartoon and haven't really seen any of the other Origins movies, so as a movie it was good. I really liked how they did the opening sequence, and that leather jacket made me drool a little. Some of the cinematography of some of the fight seens could have been way better though.

All in all I give it a thumbs up, especially since it wasn't four days long like Watchman.

:o)

Update!

Cool Pirate
* I am absolutely in love with my new job! It's getting busier every day and I love it! I also love that it's stable and secure!

*My house is getting less creepy by the day, which is good. I'm staring to feel at home there. I was looking into moving back in town to be closer to work and not have a commute(not that 15 minutes is a commute but parking is a bear) but I think I'll stay out there as long as I can. It's SUPER cheap which allows me to build up savings.

*I now have brooches for the Apron Dress I won at 12th Night, so all I have to do is make the beads and I should be good to go. I need to make shoes too, but that shouldn't be too hard, and I already have the leather.

*The knee is so-so. I've been trying to strengthen it on my own because physical therapy is so damned expensive, even with insurance. I can climb stairs like an adult now, though I have to remind myself to do it because I want to do it the other way out of habbit. I'm going to try working in some slow work in terms of fencing because I miss it like you would not believe.

*I plan on being at War Practice. I've secrured that weekend off at Cardhell, had to give up Memorial Day and possible Spring Thing to do it, but I should be there. Probably not fencing though, we'll see where I'm at.

*May Day at Healthsouth is on and I'm pretty excited about it. That was my first taste of the SCA years ago when they did the first one, and I've been there every year since. I love it. I love that it's a demo, I love that it helps Relay-for-Life and I love that it's approximately 10 minutes from my house!

*There may be a slight bonfire deal after the May Day Demo at my house if anyone is interested. There is room and it's flat and well lit so there could still be fighting that night if anyone is up for it. Let me know. I will probably send out an e-mail though. I also have a little bit of crash space and there is room for tents if that's easier for you too!

*My parents went on a cruise. I'm still waiting on pictures and stuff from that.

I MISS EVERYONE! Working this much is crap in that respect.

What's new with you?!

Goddess Meme

What Greek Goddess are you?

You are Athena!
You are Athena!
Born from the head of Zeus himself, this goddess is the most respected and capable of all the goddesses. Like this goddess of defensive warfare, crafts and wisdom, you are courageous as a warrior, cunning as a fox, and wise beyond your years. You do not try to be a leader, but you are one merely because you have the raw material that renders admiration and followers. Though you may not know it...you have the world at your feet. But since you are wise, you will not allow this newfound knowledge to go to your head.
How do you compare?

Question: Authorizations

How does the renewing of Auth's work?

I haven't been fencing because of the knee, but I like to know the option is there. What happens when it gets close to or past the expiration date on my auth card?

TIA!

A MAY DAY CELEBRATION!

All our lives we have been fighting for honor, chivalry, duty, and glory. We have dared to dream and be something more.    Now we have the possibility and privilege to fight for something greater than ourselves.  We can fight for hope.
Saturday May 2nd from 11 am to 4 pm join us in the Shire of Misty Highlands as we take up arms and ally with the American Cancer Society, HealthSouth Mountainview and the Morgantown Learning Academy Fencing Club in their fight against Cancer.  This is our 4th annual benefit for the American Cancer Society.  We have risen over $2000 in the past four years to benefit ACS. So this year  bring your pomp and pageantry, and a few friends
There will be a heavy weapons tournament as a fundraiser.  Entry fee for the tourney is $10 round robin format so everyone gets plenty of fighting! The fencing tournament will be held in the same manner.  We have plenty of opportunity for arts and sciences. Come teach, share or display your arts. There is usually media present so pavilions are welcome and pageantry please!
There is no feast, however we will be having a bake sell and food vender. Feel free to bring items to contribute if you are able. Donated food items must be individually wrapped or in baggies.  This site is bone dry.
Overnight accommodations are available at local hotels for a discounted rate, if you contact me before checking in. I recommend Euro suites, it is within walking distance of site and for a single room is $50 per night with the HealthSouth discount. To get your coupon early e-mail me with your address. There are several other reasonably priced hotels in the area as well.
Site will open for setup at 10:00 am. This is a Demo style event, where all funds raised will go to benefit the Relay for Life.  There is no site fee!!!    We have space for A&S displays and classes.  Questions contact autocrat Lady Gwyneth McClellan via e-mail at Shelly.Dusic@healthsouth.com or call 1-800-388-2451 ext 1092.
            Directions
From the north or south
Make your best way to I 79. Take exit 155 (Star City exit) to Morgantown.  Take Rout 7 East and 19 South. Turn left at the Coliseum onto Route 705 East.  Follow for One mile to HealthSouth.  We are red brick, with a copper top one story building at the corner. (across for the Chinese restaurant)

From the East
(Frostburg, Cumberland, MD) Take I 68 west to Pierpont Rd.  Exit 7.  At the end of the ramp turn right to follow 119 south. Turn right onto 705 west for 2.1 miles, HealthSouth will be on the left.

This Demo is always LOTS of fun, with a pretty good turnout! I've gone for the last three years both as a spectator and as a participant and I love it. The cause is also great and the patients always REALLY enjoy seeing everyone dressed up. It's really a win-win-win situation! Please try to get the word out and spread it around!
